Democratic Republic of Yemen - The Democratic Republic of Yemen in southern Yemen seceded from the Republic of Yemen in 1994. The DRY, with its capital in Aden, was led by President Ali Salim al-Baidh and Prime Minister Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas when their Yemeni Socialist Party demanded a return to the Marxist ideals of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen which had united with the northern Yemen Arab Republic to form present-day Yemen in 1990.

Flag of Yemen - The national flag of Yemen was adopted on May 22, 1990, the same day that North Yemen and South Yemen unified. The pattern of red, white and black stripes was also present on the flags of North and South Yemen, and are traditional Arab colors found on the flags of Egypt, Syria, Iraq among others.

North Yemen Civil War - The North Yemen Civil War was a war fought between Royalist of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen and Republican factions of the Yemen Arab Republic in North Yemen from 1962 to 1970. Eventually the Republican faction gained control of the government.

South Yemen - South Yemen is a term currently used to designate both the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (1970-1990) and its predecessor, the People's Republic of South Yemen (1967-1970), that exercised sovereignty over the territory that is now the southern part of the state of Yemen in southern Arabia.
